Please see the attached. Kodiak When: July 27, 2008 – August 2, 2008 Where: Camp Bob Hardin, Saluda, NC Who: Crew 211, Boiling Springs, SC Palmetto Council, Pickney District And invited guests What: A Kodiak is training in Leadership, Communication and Teamwork skills sought after by many businesses. A group dynamic is set and used for a memorable experience. Why: Because we can! We invite others to join us for this training. When our training was done, we asked where we could do a Kodiak. There weren’t any local. With the experience and expertise of our members, leaders and friends, we thought it was an excellent opportunity to share this great experience with others. Requirements: Age: 14 minimum Forms: Completed Class III medical, applicable tour permits. Medication: All medication should be monitored by the unit adult leader. Training: All adult leaders should complete youth protection A basic first aid course should be experie nced by all prior to attending. Equipment: All participants and staff should have: 1. A first aid kit. 2. Water/drink containers. A cup is necessary. A hydration pack is suggested. (approximate minimum of 1 liter per hour) 3. Boots that cover & support the ankles. 4. A hiking staff. 5. Compass 6. The balance of “personal gear” stated in the Boy Scout or Venturing handbook. Note the following conditions: It may rain. You WILL get dirty. It may be hot. There ARE bugs. It may be cold. There ARE animals. Food will consist of, but not be limited to MRE meals (meals ready to eat). Based upon activity & need, there will be the equivalent of 2 main meals. 1 with a combination of articles that should last through the day. 1 supper meal. Arrival will be 12:00noon on July 27th. Departure will be August 2nd at 11:00 a.m. As a favorite part of Camp Bob Hardin Summer Camp, non-camping parents are welcome to come Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. for a visit. Please make arrangements with your campers/groups ahead of time. While many bring food (sharing welcome), all attendees will still have their evening MRE to use as they wish. Medical Medical concerns beyond first aid will be handled by our staff (minimum former nurse & former army medic), and the local hospital. Leadership While we may have extra leaders, each group should plan on sending 2 leaders. Cost Youth attendees require $160. Leaders cost are determined by size of the group 5 or less youth in group, adults are $50each, 6 or more youth in group, (2) leaders are free. These costs cover food, awards and potential camp fees. Questions While this event is planned for the best experience possible, modifications will be considered as questions arise. Nature of Leadership-Kodiak 20 Teaching Sequence: This is a look at the minimal teaching sequence and how it fits into the master schedule. You might want to build yourself a masterplanning schedule integrating it with your trek itinerary. Nature of Leadership-Kodiak 23 Sample Weeklong Trek Schedule (Will vary depending on your high adventure activity. This sample gives you only 4 days of sample planning so hopefully you can get the idea for the other days.)
