A Shining Light Across America: Important Update If there is an event and a moment in our 100th Anniversary Celebration not to be missed, this is it! And (while it soon will be) it is still not too late to involve the Scouts, Scouters, units, friends, families, and supporters of your council in the July 31, 2010, broadcast of the jamboree’s Centennial Celebration show, A Shining Light Across America. Many councils, districts, and units have Shining Light viewing gatherings planned. For those currently without plans, the needed details to join in are below. Feel free to pass this information along via e-mail, newsletters, blogs, and Web sites. The opportunity for your entire Scouting family to participate in this event is historic. And, the Centennial Celebration show will be spectacular! Here are the details: 1. Arena show and broadcast schedule. The Centennial Celebration preshow will be available via satellite and online starting at 5:30 P.M. EDT. The main show will be available for viewing at 8 P.M. EDT, and the broadcast will conclude at approximately 10:30 P.M. EDT. By popular request, we’ve provided an overview of the Centennial Celebration show “run of show.” Please Note: Content and timing are subject to change, all the way to showtime. 2. Webcast update. The Shining Light webcast will be available worldwide at www.ustream.tv/shininglight and via a Shining Light tab on the BSA’s Facebook page. Viewers will be able to comment and interact with fellow webcast participants while watching. Councils can also embed the viewing screen into their own Web site, Facebook page, and elsewhere. Click on “embed codes” at the top of the www.ustream.tv/shininglight page to copy the code for “Live Show” that you can paste into the HTML of your page. Reminder: To ensure the best picture quality, the webcast option is recommended for small- to medium-sized groups on a screen no larger than 120 inches (9 feet wide by 6 feet high). Be sure to test it now by projecting any of the live videos currently available on Ustream onto the screen you plan to use. For more, review the webcast guidelines. 3. Testing. The Shining Light team will have limited availability on the big night. So, it is VERY important to test all equipment well in advance of the July 31 broadcast, whether you are watching via satellite or webcast. Please do so as soon as possible, and let us know if you have any questions. 4. If your venue doesn’t have existing satellite capabilities, and you have not yet contacted ashininglight@fleishman.com to request a satellite truck, you must do so by July 7. Satellite truck availability is on a first-come, first-served basis at this time and will be closed after July 7. 5. Additional resources. No matter where you are in the planning cycle, please take a moment to read several new documents in the Shining Light toolkit on YourSource: • Shining Light/Centennial show flow so you can learn what you’ll be watching and when • Local show programming planning ideas for those planning events leading up to the broadcast • Event planning timeline to help you determine what you should be focusing on now • Promotional materials, including a customizable Shining Light poster and billboard 6. Two-way locations. We’d like to extend our congratulations to the six councils selected to broadcast portions of their Shining Light activities back to the arena show stage: Anthony Wayne Area (Ft. Wayne, IN); Black Hills Area (Rapid City, SD); Greater New York Councils (New York, NY); Las Vegas Area (Las Vegas, NV); North Florida Council (Jacksonville, FL); and Occoneechee Council (Raleigh, NC). Join together in Scouting fellowship with tens of thousands in the jamboree arena and thousands more at Shining Light gatherings planned across the country. Help spread the word to be part of this unforgettable event! Together, launching our next century of service! National Director 100th Anniversary Celebration Project |
